What are TMT Steel Bars?
Thermo-Mechanically Treated bars, often known as TMT steel bars, are robust and flexible steel rods used in construction to reinforce concrete. Manufactured by a unique heating and quick cooling technique, they have a strong outer surface and a soft inner core that makes them both durable and malleable.
This combination of properties gives TMT bars great recovery from earthquakes, and resistance to corrosion, and fire. The use of TMT bars is important in the construction of durable and flexible structures like homes, bridges and stable infrastructure.
India’s TMT Capacity
Fast urbanization, extensive infrastructure projects, and wise government programs like the National Infrastructure Pipeline and the Smart Cities Mission are all contributing to a major rise in TMT bar production in India. TMT bars are predicted to make up a sizable share because of their crucial function in the construction and infrastructure industries, which represent 6065% of all steel use, with steel demand expected to rise at a compound annual growth rate of 7% reaching roughly 190 million tonnes by 2030.
With a focus on enhancing TMT technology to enable resilient and disaster-resistant infrastructure, the government intends to raise installed steel production capacity to 300 million tonnes by 2030 in order to meet this rising demand. The creation of TMT bars continues to increase in variety and volume as smart city initiatives and high-rise buildings take off, hence strengthening their place as a key part of India's changing building scene.
